Per Dr. Kenji Sato, the main reason to take a shower on NMT (No Moisturizing Treatment) is to avoid infectious diseases diminishing bacteria on your skin.
At the same time, if you take a bath/shower very often, it washes away generated antibacterial substances but not only being lost moisture through the skin

215987To avoid infections, NMT recommends taking a shower once 3 or 4 days or when children get dirty. (Kids love to play outside, sandbox, etc...or tend to touch anything that interests them...as you know and it's normal!). If possible, you can make the interval longer.

There are rumors that sufferers 'have to' avoid a bath for a month, etc..but I've never said it in the past.  The frequency depends on the symptoms, I mean, in case the symptom is severe with ooze, erosion, etc...NMT doctors don't recommend to do it because such wet skin can get infections easier, lose protein, etc....  (Protein is VERY important for the skin and faster healing!)

So parents have to make a decision when children need to take a shower considering the reasons above because NMT doctors are not there.  Also, when your child takes a shower, please don’t forget that the water pressure should be very low.

Infections should be taken care of by doctors immediately because it prolongs the symptoms.  Don't ask non-professionals like, "Does this look like to get infected?"  It's the doctors' portion to diagnose and to take care of it.  Also, don't forget to cut and file nails often

914106Since children (adults also!) repeats to 'scratch and dry' and the appearance of dried skin doesn't look good during the drying phase on NMT, parents tend to be worried too much misunderstanding as if it got aggravated.  So it is tough mentally for parents to see such symptoms but stay strong.  You are a mother or a father of the loved one.  As long as your child doesn't have infections or other sicknesses, keep air-drying.  (This means you need to get a trustful doctors' support.)
Hope this will be a help for you.

Hang in there!
Healling happens to your child too!
